Vazhakkai Varuval – Raw Banana Stir Fry is very simple South Indian Style Recipe and very tasty also. This stir fry goes well with Poricha Kuzhambu or Mor Kuzhambu.

Ingredients For Vazhakkai Varuval (Rwa Banana Stir Fry) Recipe:

  • 1 raw banana (Plantain/ aratikaya)
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder or to taste
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • small gooseberry size tamarind
  • 1/2 tsp urad dal
  • 3 garlic cloves, roughly crushed
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • salt to taste

How To Make Vazhakkai Varuval Recipe:

  • Wash and soak tamarind in 3 tbsp of water and extract the juice and keep aside.
  • Wash and cut the raw banana with skin into small cubes. (If you want you can peel the banana)
  • Heat a pan with oil and add urad dal and roughly crushed garlic. Saute on medium low flame until they turn into golden brown color.
  • Add chopped raw banana pieces, red chilli powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder and salt.
  • Mix well and cook for 3-5 mins.
  • Add thick tamarind juice and mix well.
  • Cover with a lid and cook on medium low flame for 5-7 mins. In-between stir well with out breaking the pieces.
  • Now remove the lid and cook on medium flame until the banana pieces become tender and crispy.
  • Check the salt and remove from heat.
  • Serve hot or warm with Dal, Poricha Kuzhambu or Mor Kuzhambu.
