Ingredients for cabbage kofta curry recipe:

For kofta ingredients:

  • 1/2 kg cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup besan flour (gram flour)
  • 1 green chillie, finely chopped
  • 1/4 tsp chilli powder or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • a pinch of asafoetida/ hing
  •  salt to taste
  • oil for frying

Ingredients for curry:

  • 2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 ” cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 cup thick yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • few coriander leaves for garnishing

Cabbage Kofta Preparation:

  • Finely chop the cabbage. Wash and drain the water.
  • Take a deep pan and add a cup of water and bring it to boil.
  • Add finely chopped and washed cabbage and cook well till the cabbage become tender and soft.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool and drain the water completely.
  • In a mixing bowl add drained cabbage, finely chopped green chillies, cumin seeds, chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, asafoetida and turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Finally add besan flour (gram flour), required quantity of salt and once again mix well.
  • If the mixture looks too dry, then sprinkle some water and mix well. If the mixture looks too moist, then add some gram flour and check the taste.
  • Mix well and make soft and smooth dough.
  • Now divide the above dough into small equal size balls.
  • Deep fry the koftas in hot oil till they turn into beautiful golden brown colour.
  • Remove from oil and drain the koftas on paper towel to remove excess of oil.
  • Now your cabbage koftas are ready and keep aside.

Cabbage kofta gravy praparation:

  • Heat a deep pan with oil and add cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, bay leaf and cumin seeds.
  • When they start to crackle add chopped onions.
  • Sauté till the onions become golden brown colour.
  • Add chopped onions and required quantity of salt.
  • Sauté till the tomatoes become juicy.
  • Add ginger garlic paste and sauté till the raw smell disappears.
  • Now add chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala and turmeric powder.
  • Combine well and sauté for few seconds.
  • Add well beaten curd/ yogurt and ½ cup of water and mix well.
  • Cook on low flame for 10 mins or until the gravy becomes slightly thicker.
  • Finally check salt and add the kofta’s and immediately turn off the stove.
  • Garnish with coriander leaves and enjoy your easy and tasty cabbage kofta curry.
  • This kofta curry goes well with roti, paratha, rice,ghee rice, jeera rice, etc…
