Bhatura Recipe – Batura is a traditional North Indian Punjabi classic deep fried Indian bread usually accompanied with chole. Bhatura has a crisp exterior and soft, spongy interior with a mild sour flavor. Very easy to make recipe that has no yeast in its making while yogurt and baking powder are essential.

Bhatura Recipe

Ingredients For Bhatura Recipe:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour (maida)
  • 1/4 cup semolina
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (curd)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp sugar
  • oil for deep frying

How To Make Bhatura With Step By Step Photos:

  • Take a wide bowl and add all the mentioned ingredients and mix well. If required add little water or milk to make soft dough. The dough should not be too hard or too soft to touch.
  • Cover the dough with a wet kitchen towel and keep aside for minimum 3 hrs.
  • Make lemon sized balls and roll into round shaped rotis. It should not be too thick or too thin.
  • Heat heavy bottomed deep pan with enough oil for deep frying. When the oil is hot, slowly slide the bhatura into the hot oil.
  • With the back of the ladle, press in the center and along the edges and you will find it will puff.
  • Slowly flip over and fry the other side until they turn into nice golden brown color.
  • Remove from oil and place the baturas on paper towel to remove the excess oil.
  • Serve hot with chole.
